Michael Young x Lacoste Plastic Polo+

Industrial designer Michael Young has linked up with the Lacoste to design a series of polos for the Holiday Collectors Series. The Holiday Collectors Series focuses on outside inspiration and brings forth designers beyond the traditional realm of fashion to reinterpret the classic Lacoste polo. Michael Young has been considered as one of the best designers of his generation. With a strong attraction to plastic, Young based his reinterpretations around combining fabric and plastic to create this futuristic polo. He created two different polo designs, the Polo and the Polo+. On the regular Plastic Polo, unlike conventional screen printing techniques, the ink was baked to cause blistering and a texturized skin. The use of plastic on the Plastic Polo+ creates a metallic leaf film crocodile skin pattern which references the well known crocodile logo of Lacoste. The end effect is a distressed, vintage styled design. 1000 of these polos were made available, packaged in part with a re-sealable metallic black plastic tray. The Plastic Polo + is currently available at colette. Image: dezeen / colette
