Jasper Wong is the founder of POW! WOW!, a global art and music festival now in its seventh year of running. As an annual custom, the art world congregates in Honolulu, Hawaii for a week-long celebration of creativity and community. After making its Taiwan debut in Taipei last year, Jasper has extended the initiative’s roster in Asia even further with the launch of additional Taiwanese dates and its first Japanese presence in Tokyo. In addition to designing a line of artist series T-shirts for his wife, Amy Wong of Big Bad Wolf, Jasper also collaborated with Hawaii-based boutique Roberta Oaks to produce an Aloha Shirt collection. Reinventing the classic aloha shirt, the range features vintage fabrics native to the state and included two silhouettes entitled Waimanu and Kawaiahao, which refer to the names of the streets in Kaka’ako where the POW! WOW! murals are situated. With a consistently impressive lineup of international artists and musicians taking part in Jasper’s festival, the artist has proven himself once again as a cultural mainstay.
