Doug Jones Is the Most Famous Actor You've Never Seen
Known as Amphibian Man in ‘The Shape of Water.’
Guillermo del Toro and his fantasy The Shape of Water won two of tonight’s biggest categories at the 90th Academy Awards: Best Director and Best Film. Taking place during Cold War era America in the 1960s, The Shape of Water is a mashup that combines old Hollywood with science fiction.
The film boasts amazing performances from Sally Hawkins as a mute custodian, Octavia Spencer as the opinionated best friend, Michael Shannon as the film’s villain and Richard Jenkins as Hawkins’s next door neighbour and confidant. However one of the film’s most unforgettable performances comes way of the mysterious sea creature played by Doug Jones. Though many have seen his work, most won’t even regonize his face. So far Jones has amassed over 150 film credits to his name portraying everything from creatures, monsters and villians in Hollywood including Amphibian Man in The Shape of Water, Abe Sapien in Hellboy, and The Faun and The Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, all which have also been directed by del Toro.
