Immerse Yourself in Your Characters' Farts in 'South Park: The Fractured But Whole'
Ubisoft presents the Nosulus Rift.
Move over, VR and Oculus Rift: smell-o-vision is finally here and you can thank Kyle, Cartman, Stan and company’s hilariously named South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The followup to 2014’s The Stick of Truth, The Fractured But Whole will make use of a brand new invention from Ubisoft: the Nosulus Rift. Billed as “virtual reality taken to the next level” and offering up “the most engaging gameplay ever created,” the Nosulus Rift was crafted in conjunction with Japanese design consultant Nakata Tuobashi and Jurgen “Nose” Bischoff to — you guessed it — immerse players in the farts of the South Park characters. As Ubisoft San Francisco senior producer Jason Schroeder puts it:
In South Park: The Fractured But Whole, you are playing the new kid in town, the hero and one of your special abilities is really the power of your ass. The only way to really help people experience that strength is to really make sure that they can feel it, and that means getting really close.
And if, for some reason, you’re worried about the Nosulus Rift emitting a decidedly fake-smelling odor, you can rest easy knowing Bischoff personally “experienced” over 1,000 different folks’ flatulence before going to work on the device’s “Fartgrance.”
Sadly, however, you won’t get a chance to be the first on your block to own the device: the Nosulus Rift will appear exclusively at Gamescom in Cologne from August 17 through August 21.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC December 6.
