According to online reports, Michael Jackson’s back catalog has allegedly been stolen from Sony Music by hackers. This encompasses 50,000 music files, most of which were by the late pop legend, are said to have been illegally downloaded. Jackson’s estate signed the biggest recording deal in history, worth $250 million USD with the company back in 2010, giving it the rights to sell his whole back catalog as well as previously unreleased tracks. According to a report in the UK’s Sunday Times, Sony found “a breach” in their system that revealed the loss. In addition, further songs include Jackson performing with the likes of Freddie Mercury and will.i.am as Contact Music reports. It is also worth pointing out that Sony has been aware of the loss for almost a year but only acknowledged it yesterday.
