OutKast may not be as prominent as before, but Big Boi -who’s stepped out of his more grounded demeanor since his last LP – s anything but going into hiatus. Following from Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty comes a highly anticipated album that features a hot list of contemporary talents. With the likes of Little Dragon, Jai Paul, Wavves, A$AP Rocky, Killer Mike, T.I., Kelly Rowland, Phantogram and KiD CuDi stepping up to the booth, it’ll be fair to say that one of hip hops longest residents is breaking traditional boundaries in the game.
Here, Pitchfork TV catches up with Big Boi over a chinwag session on the making of the album, his artistic process and the spontaneous collaboration with A$AP Rocky:
“I bumped into him at V103 in Atlanta, and I was doing an interview. I never met him before. He was a fan of the Kast’s music. What he did was– I told him I was going to the studio and he was like, shit I’m coming over there with you. Thirty minutes later he was in the booth writing. We just vibed out for a minute. It’s organically created, never genetically modified.”
Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is out via Def Jam Records on December 11 at all good record stores.
