What started as a hobby — writing and sharing news on interesting brands and designers — quickly brought Joerg Haas in contact with a number of label owners and tastemakers. After knowing what he wanted and realizing that Berlin had yet to stock the clothing he desired, Firmament was established. In his quest to do retail differently, Haas walks us through the difficulties in building-up Firmament as a brand itself, the boutique’s vision, and why buying for the shop can sometimes be like betting on a horse. Feeling that a majority of retail outlets carry more or less the same brands and styles, Firmament’s collaborative efforts have been entirely organic and never forced — located in the close proximity of a number of creatives doesn’t hurt either. At the end of the day, “It’s all about finding the right product, for the right person, at the right time.”
