Achievement

Peter Do is poised to become the next big name in fashion. This year, he was one of eight finalists for the LVMH Prize and an Emerging Designer of the Year nominee at CFDA’s 2020 Fashion Awards. Recognition from such prestigious institutions has been the culmination of years honing his craft and business knowledge. Do achieved both by getting his start at Céline under Phoebe Philo, then with Derek Lam in New York. Launching an eponymous label was the next logical step and everything came to fruition for the Vietnamese-born designer in 2018.

Since debuting his first collection, fashion insiders have praised the 29-year-old visionary for redefining women’s suiting — cut-out detailed blazers, layered wide-leg trousers and long pleated leather skirts have been seasonal standouts. Do focuses heavily on reduction to achieve his signature tailored look. It’s a no-fuss approach to design and important to the relaxed yet youthful ethos of the brand. Do’s garments are made to “adapt to the complexities of women’s lives” as stated on his brand website, and stylish A-listers like Zendaya, Solange and Beyoncé are fans of his conceptual garments.

As the house’s fanbase continues to grow, retailers like Dover Street Market, Net-à-Porter and SSENSE are also becoming some of Do’s most loyal stockists. Expansion is also on the way with shoes, knitwear and bags already starting to hit stores. Essentially, tailoring will always be at the foundation of Do’s designs and the industry can surely expect more influential names to wear his coveted creations for both leisure and red carpet events.
