For someone whose entire persona is built around anonymity, it’s been quite a busy year for Banksy. The infamous graffiti artist has been creating politically-driven street art in the shadows since the early 1990s. In 2017, Banksy opened the controversial Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem – situated along the barrier between Israel and Palestine, the project aims to shine a spotlight on the cross-border conflict while bringing tourism and jobs to the area. In terms of graffiti, Banksy has created two widely publicized pieces this year in the form of the European Union flag, in Dover, and a tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat, at his first UK show at the Barbican. The elusive master has also seen a number of pieces manifest themselves in toy form thanks to collaborative efforts with Medicom.
