Perhaps one of the biggest stories from the world of fashion this year came with Hedi Slimane’s departure from Saint Laurent. During his four years at helm of the prestigious fashion house, the man who played a large part in establishing the skinny silhouette in menswear did plenty to introduce a new aesthetic that paired bohemia with high-end grunge. Under his leadership the ready-to-wear collections were rebadged as Saint Laurent and the design studio was partly shifted to LA in successful moves that saw significant revenue growth, all of which meant Slimane’s departure back in April came as a shock – as did the litigation between Slimane and the brand that followed. Yet given his vast talent, hugely respected portfolio, and a history of sleek photographic projects, the fashion world will be eagerly waiting to see what he turns his eye to next.
