SummaryFeatures 1080p HDMI output alongside original AV ports for CRT compatibility, plus bottom-mounted DIP switches for overclocking and language selectionLaunches on November 12 with a standard black edition for $249.99 USD and a white 35th Anniversary bundle including a Metal Slug cartridge for $349.99 USDUtilizes re-engineered ASIC chips rather than software emulation to provide a 1:1 hardware recreation compatible with original 1990s game cartridgesSNK and Plaion Replai are officially reviving the holy grail of 1990s arcade culture. The two companies have announced the Neo Geo AES+, a painstakingly hardware-faithful reincarnation of the legendary 24-bit home console. Arriving to celebrate the system's 35th anniversary, this isn't just another nostalgia-fueled miniature box running cheap software emulation. Instead, the newly designed hardware replicates the original machine's formidable performance, etching the golden age of sprite-based gaming directly back into silicon.True purists know that approximation rarely cuts it when preserving video game history. By utilizing re-engineered ASIC chips rather than standard FPGA workarounds, the console achieves flawless 1:1 compatibility with original components. Decades-old vintage game cartridges and classic 15-pin arcade sticks from your childhood collection will interface seamlessly with the new Neo Geo AES+ motherboard. It represents an uncompromising approach to retro preservation, guaranteeing the exact audio fidelity and frame-perfect response times that defined tournament-level fighting games in dim arcades.Despite a strict adherence to authenticity, the manufacturer integrates a suite of crucial quality-of-life upgrades tailored for modern living rooms. Low-latency 1080p HDMI video output ensures crisp visuals on contemporary displays, while a permanent high-score saving system—powered by a brand-new battery-free memory card—drags the traditional arcade format into the present day. Hardcore enthusiasts can still route the signal through original analog AV outputs to a CRT television, and bottom-mounted DIP switches allow instant access to language settings, display modes, and system overclocking toggles.Securing the Neo Geo AES+ won't come cheap, but multiple tiers cater to varying levels of devotion. The standard black edition launches at $249.99 ISD, bundled with a wired replica arcade stick mirroring SNK’s iconic MVS cabinet layouts. A crisp white 35th Anniversary edition arrives at $349.99 USD, packing a wireless stick and a packaged Metal Slug cartridge. For absolute completionists, a $999.99 USD Ultimate Edition houses ten boxed launch titles, including heavyweights like Garou: Mark of the Wolves and The King of Fighters 2002, alongside an exclusive display rack. Standalone physical game cartridges will retail for $89.99 USD each when the entire lineup drops globally on November 12.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

The Story Behind Forza Horizon 6's 'The Art of Driving' Starts With Host, Larry Chen

As Forza Horizon 6 heads to Japan, the franchise returns again with its signature immersive driving experiences across open-worlds where car culture intersects with art, place and storytelling. Following the reveal of nine artists commissioned to create in-game works, the spotlight now narrows to three of them. Guiding that journey is Larry Chen, who steps in as host of The Art of Driving, a companion video series that brings the world of the game into sharper, more human focus. View this post on InstagramA post shared by HYPEBEAST (@hypebeast) Known for documenting global car culture through his lens as a photographer, Chen takes on a more active role, traveling across Japan through regions like Tohoku, Kyushu and Kanto while connecting with artists Dragon76, Kazuhisa Uragami and Inko Takita. Through these conversations, he explores how each artist interprets their region and how those perspectives shape the game’s environments, from visual motifs to cultural references embedded across the map.Chen also acts as the bridge between the real world and the in-game experience. By immersing himself in the regions, the art and the people behind the work, he helps unpack why Japan’s culture and creative identity are so essential to Forza Horizon 6. In our interview with Chen, he shares what he learned along the way and how the series changes the way fans will see—and experience—the game. From a photographer’s point of view, what makes Japan such a compelling setting for Forza Horizon 6?Japan, especially in this day and age, has had an undeniable impact on car culture as a whole. In recent years, it’s also become a major destination for car tourism, with an incredible amount of organic car content coming out of the country. It feels almost whimsical, like a true playground for cars, and that’s what makes it the perfect setting for Forza Horizon 6.You’re known for capturing car culture through a lens—how did stepping into a host role for this project change the way you tell stories?Since I picked up a camera 22 years ago, I’ve always been telling stories through my lens, showing people how I see events, cars, builders, races and those authentic car culture moments. But there’s a limitation to how much I can convey through still photography alone. Stepping in front of the camera has opened up new doors. It’s allowed me to tell more layered, authentic car culture stories to a wider audience, and to show the process behind the work—how I create images and build those connections. It’s really just a different way of doing what I’ve been doing for the past 22 years. As someone deeply rooted in JDM culture, how did traveling across Japan with these artists reshape your understanding of the scene? Spending time with the three artists I was with really opened my eyes to different facets of Japanese culture that I hadn’t experienced before. Experiencing it alongside someone who’s fluent in the language also made a huge difference, because their understanding helped me better immerse myself in the culture. I’ve been going to Japan since 2006, but my focus was always on car culture. I never really took the time to slow down and appreciate everything else—the food, the art, the music, all of it. This project gave me that opportunity for the first time, and it completely reshaped how I see the scene. What was your first reaction when you found out about the cars you’d be able to interact with and drive in these episodes? Did you have a personal favorite? All three cars we drove—the LC 250 Land Cruiser, the Honda Civic Type R and the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R—are legendary in their own right and come from a deep lineage of iconic Japanese vehicles. I genuinely enjoyed all of them because I have a personal connection to each one in some way.For example, with the LC 250 Land Cruiser, I had the chance to watch the very first one get built at the Tahara plant in Japan, from raw metal to a fully running vehicle. I’m also a big Land Cruiser fan—I drive an LC 200 daily. The Civic Type R is special to me because I’ve always been a fan of Honda, and my daily driver in Japan is a 2000 Integra Type R. I’m really familiar with the Type R lineage and how fun they are to drive—arguably the most fun front-wheel-drive cars out there. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the Type R. The R34 GT-R is a different story—it’s hard to compare anything to it, especially since I own one myself and went through the process of restoring it in Japan before importing it to the U.S. So each car had a strong personal connection for me, even down to owning one of them. Each region in the project has its own identity—what moments on the road stood out as defining for you?We shot across the Kanto, Kyushu and Tohoku regions, and each one had its own identity. I spent the most time in Kanto, since that’s where a lot of Japanese car culture is centered, so I’m very familiar with Tokyo and the surrounding areas.Tohoku, though, really stood out to me. I had never spent much time there before, and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The whole time I was there, I kept thinking I needed to come back—with different cars and a deeper focus on the car culture in that region.I’ve been to Kyushu a couple of times, but this trip gave me the chance to drive new roads and visit cities I hadn’t experienced before, which completely changed how I see it. Overall, the biggest takeaway for me was realizing I shouldn’t stay in Kanto every time I visit Japan. There’s so much more to explore across the country. As an artist yourself, what important things did you learn from the other artists you were able to talk to and share these moments with?I think what I learned from these artists is that they’re all at different stages in their careers, which really shaped what this project meant to each of them. It gave me a deeper understanding of what’s important to them and how they approach their work. For example, for Kazuhisa, this is the biggest project he’s ever done, so it carries a lot of weight—especially knowing that more people will be able to see his work for the first time. Then you have someone like Inko, who is already very established and widely published. Even so, it’s still important for her to push into something new while staying true to her style.Dragon is also incredibly talented and well established, but what stood out to me was how he was actively taking inspiration from everything we were experiencing in real time and thinking about how to incorporate that into his work. That perspective felt different from the others and showed how each artist processes the same experience in their own way.If someone has never been to Japan, what do you hope this project shows them beyond just the roads and cars?I think what excites me most is that people who’ve never been to Japan will get to experience it for the first time in a way that feels authentic—not just through car culture, but visually through the game, Forza Horizon 6. It reminds me of how I first experienced places through videos, games and photos, and then finally visiting them in real life, where that sense of familiarity makes it even more meaningful.Because the game draws inspiration from real locations, some of these environments feel incredibly true to life. The level of detail is impressive—you get a real sense of what it’s like to be in Tokyo, at a meet-up spot or around car culture hubs. It shows how much care went into building the world, and that really comes through in the final experience.More than anything, I hope it gives people a genuine glimpse into Japan’s culture and makes them want to experience it for themselves. For fans of Forza, how do you think this series changes the way they’ll experience driving through Japan in the game?I think fans of Forza have been closely following every bit of content released since the game was announced. This series (The Art of Driving) adds another layer by showing just how much work and detail go into building the world—especially the artwork and smaller elements that might otherwise go unnoticed. When players see these details in the game, it changes how they experience them. Instead of just driving past at high speed, there’s a greater appreciation for what went into creating those moments, whether it’s a piece of graffiti or a specific environment. It gives players a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship behind the game and makes the experience feel more intentional and immersive. What excites you most about jumping into FH6 when it drops on May 19—and what are you most looking forward to experiencing in the game?I personally can't wait to play the game, because I actually want to visit these places that I visited in real life, in the game.Lastly, we couldn’t help but spot you in Forza Horizon 6’s Initial Drive content which debuted last week… is there something we should know?Yes, I can confirm that my collaboration with the Forza Horizon team goes beyond just working with them on The Art of Driving, and I will be making an appearance in the game. It’s an honor to work with the game studios Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, and I’m so excited to have been able to be integrated in this way. I’d love to leave it at that though – fans can find out when they jump into the game exactly what we’ll be getting up to!**This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Read more at Hypebeast

By immersing himself in the regions, the art and the people behind the work, he helps unpack why Japan’s culture and creative identity are so essential to Forza Horizon 6. In our interview with Chen, he shares what he learned along the way and how the series changes the way fans will see—and experience—the game.

From a photographer’s point of view, what makes Japan such a compelling setting for Forza Horizon 6?

Japan, especially in this day and age, has had an undeniable impact on car culture as a whole. In recent years, it’s also become a major destination for car tourism, with an incredible amount of organic car content coming out of the country. It feels almost whimsical, like a true playground for cars, and that’s what makes it the perfect setting for Forza Horizon 6.

You’re known for capturing car culture through a lens—how did stepping into a host role for this project change the way you tell stories?

Since I picked up a camera 22 years ago, I’ve always been telling stories through my lens, showing people how I see events, cars, builders, races and those authentic car culture moments.

I genuinely enjoyed all of them because I have a personal connection to each one in some way.

For example, with the LC 250 Land Cruiser, I had the chance to watch the very first one get built at the Tahara plant in Japan, from raw metal to a fully running vehicle.

Each region in the project has its own identity—what moments on the road stood out as defining for you?

We shot across the Kanto, Kyushu and Tohoku regions, and each one had its own identity. I spent the most time in Kanto, since that’s where a lot of Japanese car culture is centered, so I’m very familiar with Tokyo and the surrounding areas.

Tohoku, though, really stood out to me. I had never spent much time there before, and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The whole time I was there, I kept thinking I needed to come back—with different cars and a deeper focus on the car culture in that region.

I’ve been to Kyushu a couple of times, but this trip gave me the chance to drive new roads and visit cities I hadn’t experienced before, which completely changed how I see it. Overall, the biggest takeaway for me was realizing I shouldn’t stay in Kanto every time I visit Japan. There’s so much more to explore across the country.

As an artist yourself, what important things did you learn from the other artists you were able to talk to and share these moments with?

I think what I learned from these artists is that they’re all at different stages in their careers, which really shaped what this project meant to each of them.

Even so, it’s still important for her to push into something new while staying true to her style.

Dragon is also incredibly talented and well established, but what stood out to me was how he was actively taking inspiration from everything we were experiencing in real time and thinking about how to incorporate that into his work. That perspective felt different from the others and showed how each artist processes the same experience in their own way.

If someone has never been to Japan, what do you hope this project shows them beyond just the roads and cars?

I think what excites me most is that people who’ve never been to Japan will get to experience it for the first time in a way that feels authentic—not just through car culture, but visually through the game, Forza Horizon 6. It reminds me of how I first experienced places through videos, games and photos, and then finally visiting them in real life, where that sense of familiarity makes it even more meaningful.

Because the game draws inspiration from real locations, some of these environments feel incredibly true to life. The level of detail is impressive—you get a real sense of what it’s like to be in Tokyo, at a meet-up spot or around car culture hubs. It shows how much care went into building the world, and that really comes through in the final experience.

More than anything, I hope it gives people a genuine glimpse into Japan’s culture and makes them want to experience it for themselves.

For fans of Forza, how do you think this series changes the way they’ll experience driving through Japan in the game?

I think fans of Forza have been closely following every bit of content released since the game was announced.

What excites you most about jumping into FH6 when it drops on May 19—and what are you most looking forward to experiencing in the game?

I personally can't wait to play the game, because I actually want to visit these places that I visited in real life, in the game.

Lastly, we couldn’t help but spot you in Forza Horizon 6’s Initial Drive content which debuted last week… is there something we should know?

Yes, I can confirm that my collaboration with the Forza Horizon team goes beyond just working with them on The Art of Driving, and I will be making an appearance in the game. It’s an honor to work with the game studios Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, and I’m so excited to have been able to be integrated in this way.
Sony Drops the 27-Inch INZONE M10S II OLED Monitor

SummarySony expanded its gaming ecosystem with the INZONE M10S II, a 27-inch tandem OLED monitor capable of hitting 720Hz refresh rates. The tech giant also introduced the INZONE H6 Air open-back headset and a retro-leaning Glass Purple iteration of its wireless earbuds.Sony is officially doubling down on high-octane esports performance with the expansion of its peripheral lineup. Leading the charge is the Inzone M10S II, a 27-inch monitor packing a cutting-edge tandem OLED panel. The display leans into ultimate flexibility via a dual-mode configuration, allowing players to instantly flip between a lush 1440p resolution at 540Hz or a hyper-competitive 24.5-inch 720p framing at a blistering 720Hz. Engineered in close collaboration with esports organization Fnatic, the hardware is precision-tuned for tournament conditions. Gamers get a virtually instantaneous 0.02ms gray-to-gray response time alongside Super Anti-glare shielding and an innovative Motion Blur Reduction algorithm that maintains peak brightness without visual ghosting.Pivoting to spatial acoustics, the brand dropped the Inzone H6 Air, an open-back wired headset directly influenced by the acclaimed MDR-MV1 studio monitors. Clocking in at an ultra-lightweight 199 grams, the chassis officially registers as Sony's lightest gaming audio unit to date. The open-back acoustic structure minimizes internal reflections, generating a massive, natural soundstage critical for tracking environmental cues. PlayStation Studios sound designers even provided a specialized RPG/Adventure equalization profile to deepen immersion. A flexible cardioid boom mic actively isolates voice capture from background room noise.Injecting a dose of Y2K nostalgia into the modern loadout, Sony introduced a translucent Glass Purple colorway for the Inzone Buds. This aesthetic pivot aligns with the broader cultural resurgence of see-through tech. Gamers get a virtually instantaneous 0.02ms gray-to-gray response time alongside Super Anti-glare shielding and an innovative Motion Blur Reduction algorithm that maintains peak brightness without visual ghosting.

Pivoting to spatial acoustics, the brand dropped the Inzone H6 Air, an open-back wired headset directly influenced by the acclaimed MDR-MV1 studio monitors. A flexible cardioid boom mic actively isolates voice capture from background room noise.

Injecting a dose of Y2K nostalgia into the modern loadout, Sony introduced a translucent Glass Purple colorway for the Inzone Buds. This aesthetic pivot aligns with the broader cultural resurgence of see-through tech.
Alienware Unveils The $350 USD AW2726DM QD-OLED 27-Inch Gaming Monitor

SummaryFeature a 26.5-inch QD-OLED panel with 1440p resolution and a native 240Hz refresh rateRetail for $349.99, establishing a new budget-friendly benchmark for high-performance visual displaysStreamline the hardware by removing exterior RGB lighting and USB hubs to maximize cost-efficiencyAlienware is actively dismantling the financial barrier to entry for top-tier visual fidelity with its latest hardware drop. The brand has officially launched the AW2726DM, a sleek 27-inch gaming monitor that pushes premium QD-OLED technology down to an unprecedented $350 USD price point. Historically, self-lit pixels demanded a massive premium, locking budget-conscious players out of the deepest blacks and richest colors available. By strategically stripping away superfluous aesthetic extras, the hardware giant delivers a pure performance peripheral that democratizes elite-level gaming setups. At the core of the new display sits a gorgeous 2560 x 1440 resolution panel pushing a blistering native 240Hz refresh rate. Players demanding split-second accuracy will appreciate the near-instant 0.03ms GTG response time, which all but eliminates ghosting during high-speed competitive play. Visuals remain remarkably punchy thanks to 99 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, ensuring that sprawling digital worlds pop with striking accuracy. Ergonomics also remain intact, featuring a fully adjustable stand that supports tilt, swivel, pivot, and height modifications to match any desk configuration.Achieving this aggressive sub-$400 USD benchmark required a ruthless approach to the spec sheet. Designers adopted a minimalist philosophy for the chassis, completely omitting signature exterior RGB lighting arrays and integrated USB hubs. Software integration takes a hit as well, with the monitor dropping support for the proprietary Alienware Command Center application. Connectivity is strictly business, offering dual HDMI 2.1 ports capped at 120Hz and a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection required to unlock the absolute maximum frame rate potential.Even with a streamlined feature set, the manufacturer refused to compromise on long-term reliability. The AW2726DM arrives backed by a comprehensive three-year warranty that explicitly covers OLED burn-in, offering serious peace of mind for an investment of this size. Furthermore, a TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification guarantees reduced eye strain during extended late-night sessions. This pivot from luxury pricing to mass-market accessibility signals a massive shift in the peripheral landscape, forcing competitors to rethink how much high-end performance should actually cost.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

Epic Games Reportedly Planning Disney-Themed Extraction Shooter Game

SummaryEpic Games is reportedly developing a Disney-themed extraction shooter to headline a $1.5 billion USD equity investment from the entertainment giantThe ambitious project features gameplay mechanics similar to Arc Raiders and targets an aggressive November 2026 release windowThis strategic pivot arrives amid massive structural shifts at Epic, including 1,000 recent layoffs and the imminent sunsetting of several core Fortnite game modesEpic Games is betting its cultural future on a massive new venture with Disney, anchoring a reported $1.5 billion USD equity partnership on an unannounced extraction shooter. According to reports from Bloomberg, the collaborative title drops iconic franchise characters into high-stakes combat scenarios where squads battle enemies to reach designated escape zones. While internal reviews at the developer have surfaced mixed feelings regarding the mechanical originality of the experience, the game remains the flagship release among three distinct interactive projects currently gestating between the megacorporations. The studio has even shifted vital development resources away from a third planned title after the media powerhouse allegedly voiced frustration over sluggish production timelines. The untitled extraction shooter reportedly mirrors the tension-heavy gameplay loops of upcoming genre entries like Arc Raiders. Slated for a November 2026 launch, the title arrives at a make-or-break moment for the powerhouse publisher. Internal anxiety has been mounting over consecutive commercial disappointments, with staffers citing underperforming updates, a struggling mobile store, and lackluster user-generated content engagement. By leaning heavily into recognizable intellectual property, the studio aims to recapture the zeitgeist-defining momentum that characterized its earlier battle royale dominance. Releasing a highly polished, IP-driven multiplayer experience could effectively stabilize the company's financial footing while expanding its broader interactive ecosystem.Sweeping organizational changes are already paving the way for this high-stakes creative pivot. In March 2026, the developer executed a massive $500 million USD cost-saving effort, resulting in the layoff of 1,000 employees worldwide. Alongside the workforce reduction, leadership quietly confirmed the permanent closure of several specialized franchise experiments. Fast-paced combat variant Ballistic and the music-centric Fortnite Festival Battle Stage will shut down their servers entirely on April 16, while vehicular spin-off Rocket Racing is scheduled to go offline in October. These drastic cuts reflect a concentrated strategy to trim the fat and double down on projects with guaranteed mainstream appeal.Company executives push back against the narrative that the collaborative pipeline is chaotic. Addressing the rumored production struggles, Senior Director of Global Communications Liz Markman emphasized that aggressive timelines have always been fundamental to the studio's DNA. Moving developers onto immediate releases while maintaining smaller prototyping teams is framed as standard operational procedure rather than emergency triage. Ultimately, the sweeping alliance intends to establish an open, persistent universe powered by Unreal Engine, permanently blurring the lines between passive fandom and interactive digital consumption.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

The pushback follows a growing industry trend of difficult ports for the console, which recently saw the shelving of Borderlands 4 and a notable delay for Elden Ring. IO Interactive had already pushed the game's overall release from March to May to ensure maximum polish, and this latest move proves they aren't willing to compromise on quality.Despite the Switch 2 holdup, the studio hit social media to double down on its commitment to delivering a top-tier experience across all supported hardware. The team is determined to avoid the launch-day performance issues that plagued their previous Switch 2 outing, Hitman World of Assassination, opting instead to give the 007 title the runway it needs. To keep the hype rolling for the May 27 launch across other gaming platforms, Sony just revealed a limited-edition DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation 5. Retailing at $84.99 USD, the controller features a radiant golden finish and signature gun-barrel design motifs that pay homage to the franchise's timeless aesthetic. With adaptive triggers and haptic feedback tuned specifically for the game's explosive set pieces, it’s the ultimate flex for players ready to earn their double-O status.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

This is What Happens When Japan’s Artists Take Over ‘Forza Horizon 6’

Beyond exploration, Forza Horizon has always been about fun, freedom, beauty, community and the feeling of being behind the wheel somewhere unforgettable. With Forza Horizon 6 set to land in Japan, that idea expands into something deeper with “The Art of Driving,” a series that positions driving as both a physical and creative journey. The direction blends gaming, art and real-world storytelling, tapping into Japan’s landscapes, traditions and subcultures to reframe what a racing game can achieve beyond the screen. At the core of the series is a collaboration between Playground Games, Turn 10 Studios and nine independent Japanese artists, each tasked with creating bespoke in-game murals inspired by one of Japan’s eight regions. These works function as cultural anchors across the map, translating regional identity into bold, contemporary art. From rural textures to hyper-urban energy, each piece reflects a different facet of Japan. They’re also designed as discoverable murals players can stumble upon across the map, capture in a snap and log into their in-game adventure journal as part of the journey.Leading the charge is Dragon76, a mural artist whose work blends graffiti, manga and ukiyo-e into explosive, high-energy compositions. For “The Art of Driving,” he channels the mythology and visual language of Tohoku—pulling from Nebuta Festival imagery and the legend of Susanoo—to create a cyberpunk-infused piece centered on duality and continuity. Alongside him, Tokyo-based illustrator Kazuhisa Uragami approaches the series through a digital lens, crafting a “noble outsider” character that merges maritime folklore with industrial design cues, balancing tradition and modernity in a single frame. Meanwhile, Kenji Iwasaki brings a contemporary ukiyo-e sensibility, combining historical references with anime-inspired color and composition to reinterpret regional identity for a global audience. The project expands further through artists like Lady Aiko, whose background in street art and stencil work informs bold, layered compositions rooted in Tokyo’s cultural fabric, and Naoshi, whose signature sunae (sand art) technique introduces a softer, more whimsical visual language grounded in everyday life. Each artist operates within their own discipline whether muralism, digital illustration, or mixed media. Collectively, they build a cohesive visual narrative that mirrors the diversity of Japan itself. Their contributions transform the game world into a living gallery.Building on that foundation, the series also brings in Okuyama Taiki, known for his precise, design-forward approach rooted in graphic and spatial composition. Taiki contributes a work that emphasizes structure and motion, translating the rhythm of driving into clean, dynamic visual forms. Illustrator Tatsuro Kiuchi, whose background in editorial and fine art is defined by richly textured, painterly scenes that capture the quiet nuance of Japan’s landscapes and the emotional pull of the open road.Alongside them, Wakana Yamazaki introduces a more character-driven perspective, drawing from her experience in animation and visual storytelling to create expressive figures that humanize each region’s identity. Her work adds a narrative layer, turning environments into lived-in spaces rather than backdrops. Lastly, Inko Takita brings a playful yet culturally rooted sensibility through her distinctive illustrative style, weaving together traditional motifs with a contemporary softness that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Fine art, illustration and design are bridged together, while reinforcing the idea that each journey is shaped as much by artistic interpretation as it is by the road itself.Beyond the artists, “The Art of Driving” is also shaped by a network of contributors who bring authenticity and local insight to the experience. From Nebuta float artist Ryuho Tatsuta and ice sculptor Yukiyoshi Iwakawa, to automotive experts like Yutaka Nara and engine builders at Koshikubi Engineering, each figure adds depth to the story being told. Cultural stewards, including museum director Sotaro Takahashi and local historian Mayumi Nakamura, further ground the project in real-world narratives, while figures like Larry Chen serve as host and guide to bridge global car culture with regional discovery.Together, these creators and collaborators make “The Art of Driving” an exploration of motion, memory and meaning. Every artist and contributor plays a role in shaping a world that invites fans to actually slow down, look closer and connect beyond the road.Stay tuned with Hypebeast to experience how “The Art of Driving” all comes together.
The Next-Gen Xbox and PlayStation Consoles Could Cost $1,000 USD

SummaryIndustry analysts predict that the upcoming PlayStation 6 and next-generation Xbox could see a massive price increaseSupply chain issues and the rising costs of AI production hardware are reportedly driving up manufacturing expensesRumors suggest that $1,000 USD price tags may soon become the new standard for flagship gaming consolesThe next generation of the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox consoles could require a massive financial investment from players. Industry analysts predict that both rumored flagship gaming systems could hit the $1,000 USD mark as manufacturing costs continue to surge.Current projections suggest that base prices for the upcoming hardware cycle are rumored to start at least 50% higher than the previous generation. “They really don’t want to raise prices on their hardware, because that part is usually a heavily subsidized part of the equation, and the sale of games is the gravity point of their revenue model. I predict that the next generation of console hardware will start at a 50% higher price point than the current one did,” Joost van Druenen, SuperData co-founder and games industry analyst, told GamesRadar.“I think $999 USD at least for one variant of the PS6 is not impossible,” Dr. Serkan Toto of Japanese consultancy firm Kantan Games shared. van Druenen added, “We’re quickly moving towards a world in which a $1,000 USD console will be the norm, and console gaming will become a luxury expenditure.”Analysts further point toward a perfect storm of economic factors, including a reported 80 to 90% surge in the cost of DRAM and NAND memory chips since early 2026. Furthermore, data centers rapidly acquiring hardware for AI production and ongoing distribution issues have severely impacted component availability. While no official announcement from Sony and Microsoft have been made so far, Sony did confirm that the base PlayStation 5 model will increase by $100 USD to become $649.99 USD, while the PS5 Pro will increase by $150 USD to become $899.99 USD.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

Industry analysts predict that both rumored flagship gaming systems could hit the $1,000 USD mark as manufacturing costs continue to surge.

Current projections suggest that base prices for the upcoming hardware cycle are rumored to start at least 50% higher than the previous generation. “They really don’t want to raise prices on their hardware, because that part is usually a heavily subsidized part of the equation, and the sale of games is the gravity point of their revenue model. I predict that the next generation of console hardware will start at a 50% higher price point than the current one did,” Joost van Druenen, SuperData co-founder and games industry analyst, told GamesRadar.

“I think $999 USD at least for one variant of the PS6 is not impossible,” Dr. Serkan Toto of Japanese consultancy firm Kantan Games shared. van Druenen added, “We’re quickly moving towards a world in which a $1,000 USD console will be the norm, and console gaming will become a luxury expenditure.”

Analysts further point toward a perfect storm of economic factors, including a reported 80 to 90% surge in the cost of DRAM and NAND memory chips since early 2026.

Sony Is Increasing PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro Prices Globally

SummarySony is raising the prices of all PlayStation 5 consoles and the PlayStation Portal globally starting April 2, 2026The standard PS5 and Digital Edition will see a $100 increase, while the PS5 Pro will jump $150 to $899.99Experts attribute the hardware price hikes to a global memory chip shortage fueled by the booming AI data center sectorSony announced a significant global price increase across its entire PlayStation 5 console lineup and the PlayStation Portal remote player. The new pricing, which takes effect on April 2, marks the second time in less than a year that the company has raised the cost of its current-generation gaming hardware.Under the new pricing structure in the U.S., the standard PlayStation 5 with a disc drive will cost $649.99 USD, while the Digital Edition will retail for $599.99 USD — a $100 USD increase for both models. The premium PlayStation 5 Pro will see the steepest hike, jumping $150 USD to $899.99 USD. Additionally, the PlayStation Portal handheld streaming device will increase by $50 USD to $249.99 USD. Similar price adjustments are being rolled out across the UK, Europe, and Japan. In an official blog post, Sony attributed the price hikes to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape" and stated the adjustments were necessary to ensure the delivery of high-quality gaming experiences. While the company did not elaborate on specific economic factors, industry experts point to a severe shortage of RAM and memory chips driven by the booming artificial intelligence sector. The massive demand from AI data centers has constrained component supplies, forcing tech manufacturers to pass the rising costs downstream to consumers.

Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

The new pricing, which takes effect on April 2, marks the second time in less than a year that the company has raised the cost of its current-generation gaming hardware.

Under the new pricing structure in the U.S., the standard PlayStation 5 with a disc drive will cost $649.99 USD, while the Digital Edition will retail for $599.99 USD — a $100 USD increase for both models. The premium PlayStation 5 Pro will see the steepest hike, jumping $150 USD to $899.99 USD. Additionally, the PlayStation Portal handheld streaming device will increase by $50 USD to $249.99 USD.
Inside ‘Pokémon Champions’: Masaaki Hoshino on the Future of Pokémon Battles

30 years after Pokémon Red and Blue, battles have evolved from playground competitions to a fully-fledged circuit, with its championship finals set to take place at San Francisco’s Chase Center this year.Battling has been at the franchise’s core since its inception. With Pokémon Champions, the focus narrows entirely on competitive play. Announced last year, Pokémon Champions is a turn-based experience designed for both newcomers and veteran trainers. With accessibility in mind, key systems have been streamlined -- obtaining Pokémon, team building, matchmaking, and more. In addition to simplifying historically complex systems, the game will be available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and mobile devices. In anticipation of its launch next month, The Pokémon Company International invited us to its HQ in Bellevue, WA, to play a directed demo of the game. The brief hands-on experience began with three tutorials that introduced key components of Pokémon battles. Following this, we were prompted to recruit four new Pokémon to build a team with, customizing their stats. Then, it was time to battle. As someone who has previously competed in tournaments, the experience felt familiar yet refreshed. Building a team is easier than ever, and the entire flow was intuitive. Even the less experienced players in the room had no trouble getting the hang of things.Following the demo experience, we spoke with Masaaki Hoshino, the game producer and development director of Pokémon Champions, about revisiting legacy battle mechanics, integrating Pokémon from future games like Pokémon Winds and Waves, and more. The following interview was conducted via a translator during a media roundtable. Why was now the right time to introduce a battle-focused title like Pokémon Champions?Masaaki Hoshino: Pokémon Champions was created because we want to keep Pokémon battles around forever. I enjoy them myself and want everyone else to enjoy them, too. From my experience with Pokémon Unite, supporting a wider audience by bringing battling to Nintendo Switch and mobile felt like the right move. Also, since Pokémon Legends: Z-A has a different battle system, we know many people want to use the new Mega Evolutions in a traditional setting. Moving forward, regardless of any battle systems introduced in future games, we want to ensure turn-based battles are available.Mega Evolution is a key component of Pokémon Champions battles. How will other battle mechanics throughout the series make their way into the game? Could we see multiple of them present in one battle? We’re starting with Mega Evolution, but we’re also preparing to reintroduce previous battle mechanics. Future mechanics will also likely make it into Pokémon Champions. This concept of featuring cross-generational battle mechanics is a key point of the title.“Pokémon Champions was created because we want to keep Pokémon battles around forever.”How has the team approached balancing the game for all audiences? With Ranked Battles, it’s about matchmaking as fair as possible. As for the Pokémon themselves, there are many parameters involved, which can be quite daunting for new trainers. We’ve streamlined some of these elements while maintaining their identity. For example, Effort Values (EVs) have been simplified from 252 points to 64, making them approachable for someone new while remaining familiar to a veteran. (Editor’s Note: This removes quirks present in the original 252-point system.)Have Individual Values (IVs) been removed from a Pokémon’s stats? If so, why?IVs are an element we removed to make team building more approachable. [Shigeki Morimoto] of Game Freak, the original designer of Pokémon battles, and I went back and forth discussing what stats are necessary. After a heated discussion, we reached the conclusion that IVs, while important, could be removed without compromising the core identity of a Pokémon battle. With Pokémon Champions becoming the official title for the competitive circuit, competitive players have plenty to look forward to. However, for the more casual Pokémon trainer, will there be any fun-oriented rulesets or game modes introduced? In addition to Ranked Battles, we also have Casual and Private Battles. Auto-team creation is another feature aimed at beginners, offering a simplified approach to team building.“We [concluded] that IVs, while important, could be removed without compromising the core identity of a Pokémon battle.”Will certain Pokémon or items be more difficult to obtain in Pokémon Champions than others? Such as Legendary Pokémon or Mega Stones. For Legendary Pokémon, it’s still a secret. In terms of rare items, Mega Stones are available via the in-game store. You can purchase them with the VP that you earn from playing battles. There will also be events where you can get some items.I’ve noticed that the Pokémon shown off so far have been the fully-evolved versions of a Pokémon. Will not-fully-evolved Pokémon be usable? At launch, only final evolutions will be available. This is another topic that Morimoto-san and I debated at length. After we introduce a lot of the final evolutions, we might consider earlier evolutions as well. For now, this approach is more accessible for new players. With future Pokémon titles like Pokémon Winds and Waves coming up, are they being built with Pokémon Champions in mind? Will there be a delay before players can access new Pokémon in Pokémon Champions?I don’t have full visibility into the development of Pokémon Winds and Waves, so I can’t comment on the philosophy behind it. As for when newly-introduced Pokémon will appear in Pokémon Champions, it’s still being figured out at the moment.Translator: Hoshino-san shared a final comment.Pokémon Champions is a live ops game, so the game’s community is very important. Feedback is key, and that’s why I wanted to join this media preview. We plan to gather user feedback and continue to improve the game over time. I hope that you all enjoy Pokémon Champions and share your thoughts.Pokémon Champions will launch on Nintendo Switch systems as a free-to-start game on April 8, with a mobile version releasing later this year.

Read more at Hypebeast
