The advent of digital photography has helped significantly push and improve photography through rapid learning and experimentation. But on that same note, it has also changed the perception of photography. The once slow and tedious art form has now become an overwhelming and at times creatively mediocre and cliche form of communication. While the ease and power of digital tools are important, the actual process and low barriers to entry of shooting and sharing a photo has undervalued the act of shooting. WhiteAlbum aims to recontextualize photography through their app. Users are provided 24 shots that they will not be able to review, delete or edit. Instead, they will only be given the opportunity to see the photos once they pay $20 USD (including delivery) to have it printed and bound as a book of Polaroid-style 4” x 5” photos. The app is available now through iTunes.
