All those streaming sessions taking place on smartphones across the world appear to be having a pretty positive impact on Spotify. Spotify announced Monday that 15 million people are enrolled as subscribers with them, and it’s being reported that most of those newer subscriptions are a result of mobile streaming. In a newly-published piece by Billboard, the outlet reports that an “industry source” of theirs is telling them that “80 percent of new subscribers” included in recent numbers published by the digital stream giant are coming from the company’s mobile program. This is the “same figure” CEO Daniel EK touted during the Taylor Swift fiasco back in November, and the same insight was also expressed by Ek in a piece for Billboard last May. Interestingly, the company also told attendees at CES last week that “mobile devices now account for over half of all listening.” Considering that most people you encounter on a day-to-day basis seem to be attached to their phone and/or tablet in some way, shape, or form, it makes perfect sense.
