For those wondering: yes, MC Lyte is still active in music. The pioneering emcee has taken to Complex to drop off a new collaboration featuring fellow longtime lyricist Common. “Dear John” serves as the first single from Lyte’s upcoming full-length album, which will stand as the seventh album to come out of the veteran’s career and her first LP in 11 years. The Common collaboration has also been selected to be the anthem of #EducateOURMen, which is the ”signature scholarship initiative of MC Lyte’s Hip Hop Sisters Foundation.” You can check out the track below, and expect MC Lyte’s seventh studio album to come out sometime before year’s end.
