Currently in negotiations with record label executives on their latest music development, it has been revealed that Apple is planning to launch a new streaming platform that will rival the likes of Spotify and BeatsMusic, according to this report from Billboard. A pioneer in the development of user-friendly online music consumption, the tech giants first changed the industry back in 2001 with the introduction of iTunes, and played catch-up with online radio stations like Pandora by introducing iTune Radio last year. Now, as music consumption steadily shifts from services like Pandora to the likes of Spotify, BeatsMusic, SoundCloud and more, Apple is looking to introduce a streaming service of their own, which would charge users a small fee in exchange for unlimited streaming of tracks in the iTunes store.

They are feeling out some people at labels on thoughts about transitioning its customers from iTunes proper to a streaming service … So when you buy a song for $1.29, and you put it in your library, iTunes might send an e-mail pointing out that for a total of, say, $8 a month you can access that song plus all the music in the iTunes store. It’s all in the ‘what if’ stage.

Other surprising developments include talks over a potential iTunes App for Android devices, as the growth of the Google-owned operating system is said (according to Billboard’s sources) to stand as a potential threat to iTunes sales, and the Android-friendly iTunes App may post a possible solution.
