Off his latest album Doris, Earl Sweatshirt‘s introvert single “Chum” took the airwaves with its bass-heavy instrumental and earnest lyrics. Production duo Christian Rich stood behind the crafty single, while Chad Hugo of The Neptunes also contributed his trademark riffs. Here, Christian Rich sits down with LRG’s Off The Record series, as they talk through the creative process from finding the melody to the accident of using several vocal samples, in addition to turning down Thom Yorke’s vocals for an overall organic approach to the track — allowing the music to speak for itself via its serendipitous aesthetics. Doris is available now via iTunes.
