Joy Division's Album Cover Explained by Graphic Designer

The enigmatic cover to Joy Division’s 1979 album Unknown Pleasures paid recourse to the band’s unembellished yet unadorned sound. The image that represents the frequency of the signal from the first pulsar or pulsating star went on to be recreated on tattoos, clothing and animation in the years that followed. Former Factory Records graphic designer Peter Saville who was responsible for the cover, spoke of how the concept came about and he went about bringing the idea to life.
