After unexpectedly announcing the cancellation of Hood By Air’s Paris Fashion Week show and subsequent hiatus of his label, designer Shayne Oliver made waves in the fashion industry when he unexpectedly joined Helmut Lang’s design team. Part of Helmut’s relaunch plans, Oliver was brought on to become the first designer of its Design Residency program. Heading the revamp efforts, Oliver brought his outlandish streetwear to the storied label unveiling a striking Spring/Summer 2018 collection at this year’s New York Fashion Week. Undeniably becoming the talk of the week, Oliver exhibited Helmut’s new direction and signaled a resurgence of the iconic label. Although it is unknown how long Oliver will stay at Helmut, the former HBA designer is definitely one to watch in the coming year.
