2016 was a big year for Daisuke Obana and his label N.HOOLYWOOD, which is why he rightfully claims a sport on our annual Hypebeast 100. The Japanese designer started the year off with a bang during New York Fashion Week, showcasing a dynamic utilitarian menswear range capable of tackling even the most extreme weather conditions in spite of its many fashion-forward characteristics. Cold-resistant gear, workwear, cable knit sweaters, and vinyl joggers were all present in N.HOOLWOOD’s show that was widely-recognized as one of the most prestigious from the entire season. Obana built on the early year’s momentum by unleashing collaborations with Converse, fragment design, Reebok Classic, Diesel and Vans. Taking to the Big Apple once again for the brand’s most recent showing, Daisuke Obana capped off his most successful year to date with a marine-inspired Spring/Summer 2016 collection encompassing everything from designs mimicking wetsuits to more conventional menswear items with a deep sea twist.
