Recently on display in New York at the SCOPE Art Show was “ATRAMENTUM” from Big Apple-based artist, designer, and calligrapher Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic – the winner of SCOPE’s 4th annual See|Me: Year In Review competition. A transportive multimedia installation and creative collaboration with award-winning interactive agency FAKE LOVE at New York’s Skylight at Moynihan Station, “ATRAMENTUM” – Latin for “black liquid” or “substance” – takes viewers to a world of elegant and fluid symbology through the digital presentation of ink-based works. Ethereal ink washes and calligraphic brush strokes re-contextualize the ancient art form into an innovative and technical expertise that’s distinctly Mestrovic’s. Above, the award-winning artist and creative director touches on his artistic beginnings – originally from Buenos Aires, he’s a graduate of both the PRATT Institute and TEMPLE University of Japan – sheds light on the things that have informed the process and style of his work, and takes viewers inside the beautifully responsive “ATRAMENTUM.” Fans can catch more from Mestrovic on Instagram, including a look at his painting that were recently on display at The MoMA for The ARMORY SHOW.
