It’s been a career-defining year for Compton’s own Kendrick Lamar. When K-Dot released the Grammy Award-winning, politically-charged masterpiece 'To Pimp a Butterfly' back in 2015, some wondered if he’d reached a ceiling -- 'DAMN.' smashed the ceiling. The album debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, moved over 600,000 units and was certified double platinum after just three months. To top it all off, it would later win Album of the Year at the 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Kendrick has also been featured on a number of fellow artists’ work this year, most notably on Travis Scott’s track “goosebumps” and fellow TDE artist SZA’s “Doves in the Wind.” Outside of the music scene, Kung Fu Kenny made waves by dropping longtime endorser Reebok to sign with Nike.
