La bibliothèque Wir Słowa à Rzeszów, en Pologne – également connue sous le nom de « The Spiral of Words » – est un projet lauréat d’un concours international, signé Kengo Kuma & Associates, en collaboration avec Schick Architekti, Buro Happold et MASU Planning. S’étendant sur près de 19 000 mètres carrés, le projet est conçu comme un repère urbain majeur qui stimule la participation active des habitants, en offrant un espace public inclusif où nature et littérature se rencontrent au fil d’une succession de lieux inspirants, remarquables par leur inventivité formelle.

Pensé comme une forme spiralée, l’édifice incarne à la fois un voyage symbolique et physique à travers la culture et le savoir. En son cœur, un hall principal baigné de lumière zénithale, autour duquel les espaces de bibliothèque se déploient en une spirale continue sur plusieurs niveaux. Le jury du concours a salué ce projet pour son originalité, sa présence structurante à l’échelle de la ville et ses qualités formelles novatrices.

Le concept architectural mise sur l’ouverture et la fluidité, avec des intérieurs imaginés pour favoriser aussi bien l’étude que la vie collective. Les espaces événementiels et les zones de lecture s’intègrent naturellement dans la spirale, créant une circulation dynamique qui invite à l’exploration. La forme compacte et épurée garantit l’efficacité tout en répondant aux exigences du programme, tandis que l’implantation au cœur d’un parc renforce le caractère contemplatif du lieu. La lumière naturelle joue un rôle clé, filtrant à travers l’atrium central pour animer les intérieurs et affirmer le lien entre savoir et environnement.

Le paysage conçu par MASU Planning prolonge l’esprit de la bibliothèque jusque dans son environnement immédiat. Au niveau du sol, des îlots végétalisés font office de tampons écologiques, de zones de rétention d’eau et de refuges pour la biodiversité, tandis que des jardins en toiture à chaque étage composent une séquence d’espaces extérieurs dont l’atmosphère évolue au fil de l’ascension des visiteurs. Ces paysages deviennent le prolongement des espaces intérieurs de la bibliothèque, offrant des lieux dédiés au jeu, à la culture et à la détente. Ensemble, architecture et paysage dessinent un espace public cohérent où nature, culture et vie quotidienne se rencontrent, faisant de la bibliothèque Wir Słowa à la fois un repère civique emblématique et un véritable milieu de vie.
