Dr. Samuel Ross is a collaborative mastermind, following up on A-COLD-WALL*‘s Converse Geo Forma, Eastpak and Hublot drops with yet another Dr. Martens release, this time around taking on the 1460 boot, 1461 shoe, and 1461 Bex.

A-COLD-WALL* has built a dialogue and identity around reimagined workwear, infusing traditional pieces with a technological front for architectural and sculptural designs. It’s an ethos that infiltrates much of Ross’ work, coming to play in the new Dr. Martens collection that takes the footwear brand’s iconic boot and shoe and reworks them with angular, heavy-duty touches. From the Bex’s double-height sole unit to the choice of colors — black or white — the collection references stark architecture, brutalist in its nature.

Structures replace where the eyelets would traditionally be found, and instead of laces, we find leather and metal in the form of a zipper closure — when undone revealing dual branding. A-COLD-WALL*’s bracket branding and coding make their mark on the lateral, sitting alongside side panels that are layered for a doubled-up impact, as if they’ve been added for extra protection. Likewise, gunmetal rivets impose another tactile approach to design, while a classic black and yellow AirWair heel loop graces all three offerings.

Welt stitching is kept OG on the black 1461 and comes in white for the white 1460 and 1461 duo; pairs that also sport semi-transparent sole units and white interiors. A reflective hang tag echoes the utilitarian ethos and subsequently rounds out the trio.

A-COLD-WALL*’s next Dr. Martens collaboration drops on December 12 on the A-COLD-WALL* website and on December 13 at Dr. Martens and at select global retailers.
