Founded by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki in 1999, ENGINEERED GARMENTS aims to deliver reimagined silhouettes that stray from the traditional. Landing on the motto “we are not designed, but engineered,” the NYC-based brand maintains quality at the forefront and exclaims that garments are meant to unite as one with its wearer.

Following its outdoor-focused collaboration with Palace, ENGINEERED GARMENTS now taps on celebrated British label Baracuta to set its touch on the brand’s G9 Harrington Jacket. The partnership builds a bridge across the Atlantic Ocean, reuniting for the first time since FW18.

Arriving in three colorway options, Suzuki reimagines Baracuta’s wardrobe staple, adding a dash of American identity by integrating elements of the classic Ma1 Aviator Jacket. The G9’s traditional slim build is abolished and swapped with an oversized fit accompanied by dog-ear collars and a ribbed perimeter. Select features have been replaced for an international feel as soft quilted lining delivers padded underpinnings seen on the Ma1 alongside asymmetrical pockets with premium snap closures. Baracuta’s “Fraser Tartan” print lands inside the latter, while co-branded motifs accompany it. The collaboration is a homage to the younger generation, inspiring us to come together to celebrate an iconic pairing.

Speaking exclusively to Hypebeast, Suzuki says:

“What excited me about the collaboration is that there is an international mix-up within the project. A respected British brand run by a respected Italian company designed by a Japanese designer with American experience. It is a new international standard.

The style is very universal and I personally would wear it over a suit or a blazer for a change. I would love to re-imagine and work on the G4 or G10 which are just as classic.”

ENGINEERED GARMENTS x Baracuta collaboration is available for purchase online via Baracuta, WP, Nepenthes and select retailers globally.

Elsewhere, Jean Touitou collaborates with himself for A.P.C’s 35th anniversary collection.
