Il futuro agghiacciante dei reality è già qui. Il nuovo trailer del reboot di The Running Man è uscito, svelando un thriller dal ritmo serrato e viscerale che aggiorna il classico racconto distopico per il pubblico di oggi. Il film, che ruota attorno a una caccia all’uomo mortale trasmessa in TV, arriverà nelle sale il mese prossimo.

Il trailer ci proietta in un cupo futuro prossimo in cui The Running Man è lo show più visto in TV: una spietata competizione di sopravvivenza. Qui i concorrenti, chiamati Runner, devono resistere per 30 giorni mentre vengono braccati da assassini professionisti, e ogni istante è trasmesso a una nazione assuefatta alla violenza. Il film ha per protagonista Glen Powell nei panni di Ben Richards, un uomo della classe operaia spinto dalla disperazione a salvare la figlia malata. Accetta l’offerta del carismatico ma glaciale produttore del programma, Dan Killian, interpretato da Josh Brolin, per diventare un Runner. Ma la sua ribellione allo stato puro e gli istinti ferini trasformano presto Richards da concorrente disperato in un caso inatteso: una macchina da ascolti e una minaccia per il network che controlla l’intero sistema. Con la fama alle stelle, cresce anche il pericolo, costringendo Richards a beffare una nazione ossessionata dall’idea di vederlo cadere.

Il film è il remake dell’omonimo cult del 1987 con Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tratto dal romanzo di Stephen King, ora vanta un nuovo cast: Powell affianca Colman Domingo, con Jayme Lawson, Lee Pace, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera e altri.
