A 15ª Bienal de Xangai, “Does the flower hear the bee?”, abriu oficialmente as portas no icônico Power Station of Art (PSA). Esta edição propõe uma investigação ambiciosa e oportuna sobre inteligências não humanas e relacionais.

O tema ancora-se em uma verdade científica poética: há interações sutis entre diferentes formas de vida. Como a flor que percebe a vibração das asas da abelha, a mostra investiga a esfera corporificada e interconectada em que comunidades podem criar vínculos dinâmicos com “o mundo mais-que-humano”. A 15ª Bienal de Xangai acontece em um momento de grande incerteza e desânimo global. Se não há volta, somos instados a recorrer à arte em busca de novas formas de vida e de novos modos de comunicação sensorial.

“Acho que vivemos um tempo em que tanta informação chega até nós, e é uma informação meio árida”, diz a curadora-chefe Kitty Scott. “Eu estava interessada na informação tátil, naquilo que nos move — os verbos que nos levam a outro registro e a outro lugar.”

Esta edição é liderada pela Sra. Scott, ao lado das co-curadoras Daisy Desrosiers e Xue Tan, dos curadores Long Yitang e Zhang Yingying do Emerging Curator Project do PSA, e da designer de exposição Rachaporn Choochuey. “Does the flower hear the bee?” foi concebida com ideias de artistas, curadores, intelectuais, músicos, poetas, cientistas e escritores, honrando a visão esperançosa de que a arte pode nos conduzir a um futuro desconhecido.

O espaço da Bienal, assinado por Rachaporn Choochuey, afasta-se de um percurso prescrito e se desdobra como uma paisagem aberta. Esses blocos utilitários, pensados para serem reaproveitados após a Bienal, moldam a experiência de fruição, oferecendo distintos pontos de vista para ver as obras sob outra luz. A estratégia de projeto de Choochuey convida o visitante a encontrar seu próprio ritmo, permitindo que quase se torne outra forma de vida que atravessa e dá forma ao espaço. “A exposição é sobre escuta. Queremos que as pessoas permaneçam, circulem sem pressa, sentem-se, passem tempo, fiquem confortáveis”, explica a Sra. Choochuey. “Em muitas mostras a que fui, precisamos correr para ver uma coisa atrás da outra — e isso me exaure. Aqui, eu gostaria de um ritmo mais lento, para escutar, para realmente ouvir muitas obras que tentam dizer algo.”

Ela continua: “Você percebe que tentamos não usar muita sinalização. Procuramos deixar que as próprias obras conduzam o público pelo espaço e despertem curiosidade sobre o que está acontecendo. A obra encomendada de Liu Shuai, Slide, Then Soar! paira sobre a VILLA tbh, dialogando poeticamente com colagens naturais de bambu e plantas. No Shanghai Botanical Garden – Penjing Garden, a artista visual e vocalista japonesa Ami Yamasaki segue explorando a relação entre espaços acústicos e a escuta recíproca.
