Na interseção da arte, poesia e performance, Precious Okoyomon explora a interatividade entre brincadeira, caos e regeneração. Ganhou destaque pela primeira vez após sua performance na Bienal de Veneza de 2022, onde transformou o Arsenale em um ecossistema amplo e exuberante, entrelaçando fluxos naturais com visões afro-futurísticas. Agora, Okoyomon está trazendo seus mundos imaginativos para a Áustria com ONE EITHER LOVES ONESELF OR KNOWS ONESELF, uma exposição individual com novos trabalhos, no Kunsthaus Bregenz.

Através de uma série de instalações expansivas, a exposição transforma o museu em um cenário de sonhos. Desde salas de consultoria psicanalítica reimaginadas com diabinhos fofos e travessos, até um mar suspenso de bichos de pelúcia, o artista confronta desejos e medos íntimos com uma sinceridade inabalável, convidando os espectadores a explorarem força na suavidade.

Trabalhos em exibição incluem como in the belly of the sun endless (2025), um urso de pelúcia colossal esquecido na borda de um carpete rosa macio, acompanhado de sons hipnóticos de Takiaya Reed. Com olhos em forma de lágrima e corações nas patas, o olhar ansioso do urso provoca uma sensação de “devaneio e autoesquecimento”, fomentando uma atmosfera de transe. No andar superior, um jardim cercado por vidro nutre a vida de lagartas pupantes e borboletas esvoaçantes, oferecendo um momento de conforto.

Logo fora do jardim, Okoyomon estreia seu último filme, skysong (2025), onde é visto pilotando um avião sobre o Rio Hudson, lendo sua poesia para o céu ao redor. “As imagens transmitem uma sensação de infinitude e liberdade, caracterizada por um ego que vê tanto as coisas quanto a vida no mundo material como uma fonte de inspiração espiritual”, escreveu o museu. “Mas o espectador é forçado a permanecer atrás da malha, com as borboletas.”
