Nagsimula ang Loewe sa isang tahimik na leather workshop sa Madrid noong 1840s, nakaangkla na agad sa sining ng paglikha. Ngayon na isa na itong global phenomenon, itinuturing pa rin ng maison ang sarili bilang isang creative incubator, bukás sa mga craftsperson mula sa iba’t ibang larangan para sa patuloy na pag-uusap ng fashion at sining. Sa ilalim ng dating creative director na si Jonathan Anderson, minarkahan ang mahigit isang dekada ng kaniyang panunungkulan ng masidhing pagbabalik sa artisanal excellence at innovation, na nagbunsod sa paglulunsad niya ng Loewe Foundation Craft Prize noong 2016—isa sa pinakaabangang taun-taong pagtatagpo ng fashion at art.

Katatapos lamang ihayag ng Loewe Foundation ang shortlist para sa 2026 edition ng Craft Prize, tampok ang 30 artist na pinili mula sa kabuuang 5,100 isinumiteng obra. Ipapakita ang mga napiling gawa sa isang espesyal na group exhibition sa National Gallery Singapore mula May 13 hanggang June 14.

Ia-anunsyo ang overall winner at dalawang special mention bago magbukas ang exhibition sa May 12. Tatanggap ang nagwagi ng €50,000 EUR, habang ang dalawang special mention ay makakakuha ng tig-€5,000 EUR. Ngayong taon, makikipag-partner ang foundation sa Belmond upang ilunsad ang tatlong tig-dalawang-buwang residency para sa piling mga artist sa La Residencia sa Mallorca.

Ayon sa isang press release, nilapitan ng 2026 selection ang paglikha bilang isang maselang negosasyon sa pagitan ng balanse, kawalang-tatag at tensiyon, pinagtatagpo ang kultural na tradisyon at kontemporanyong pagmamapa at pag-uugnay. Nagdadala ang mga napiling artist ng iba’t ibang medium, kabilang ang book binding, ceramics, woodworking, textiles, furniture, glass, metal, lacquer at alahas.

“Patuloy na ibinubunyag ng Craft Prize ang pambihirang pagkakaiba-iba at ambisyon ng contemporary craft,” pahayag ni Sheila Loewe. “Ipinapakita ng mga obrang napasama sa shortlist para sa 2026 edition kung paano muling maiimahina at mababago ang malalim na nakaugat na tradisyon sa pamamagitan ng innovation, husay at imahinasyon. Ang pagdadala ng exhibition na ito sa Singapore ay sumasalamin sa global na pag-uusap na nasa puso ng Prize at sa patuloy naming paninindigang suportahan ang mga artist sa mahahalagang sandali ng kanilang karera.”
