Jack Coulter torna a Londra con With Every Light and With Every Song, una nuova mostra personale che riunisce 25 dipinti astratti mai esposti prima.

Presentata da Winsor Birch alla Gallery 8 di St James’s, la mostra segna il ritorno pubblico di Coulter dopo tre anni. La collezione prosegue l’indagine dell’artista sul rapporto tra suono, colore ed emozione, con opere ispirate a musicisti che spaziano dai Beatles e dalle Supremes ad Amy Winehouse e Olivia Dean.

Coulter è affetto da sinestesia, una condizione neurologica che gli fa percepire i suoni come colori vividi. Anziché creare immagini fedeli di singoli brani, l’artista usa la melodia come punto di partenza, traducendo le emozioni che si celano dietro la musica in energiche stratificazioni di colore, texture e movimento. Il suo approccio nasce da un interesse di lunga data per l’Espressionismo astratto americano, compresi i lavori di Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning e Mark Rothko. Coulter ha citato tra le sue principali influenze anche Joan Mitchell, sinestetica come lui, che definiva questa condizione la sua «magia segreta».

La mostra segue la recente performance di pittura dal vivo di Coulter con Sir Elton John. Dalla collaborazione è nata un’opera ispirata a «Tiny Dancer», venduta nel marzo 2026 a sostegno della Elton John AIDS Foundation. «I dipinti di Jack ci invitano a vedere il mondo in modo diverso, insieme a lui», hanno dichiarato Elton John e David Furnish in una nota congiunta, definendo la nuova collezione «profondamente personale e capace di parlare a tutti».

With Every Light and With Every Song è visitabile alla Gallery 8, in Duke Street 8, a St James’s, Londra, fino al 9 agosto. La mostra è aperta tutti i giorni dalle 10 alle 18, con ingresso gratuito.
