《The Suicide Squad》卡司們相當推崇導演詹姆斯岡恩，包含 Peter Davison（飾演 Blackguard）、Nathan Fillion（飾演 TDK 斷臂俠）、Idris Elba（飾演 Bloodsport）、Viola Davis（飾演 Amanda Waller）、Margot Robbie（飾演 Harley Quinn）、John Cena（飾演 Peacemaker）等，認為導演 James Gunn 有著無窮盡的想像力，本片是他最擅長的電影風格和類型，他同時也是個很有前瞻性的導演，用嶄新的角度去處理已經被詮釋過的主題。
《The Suicide Squad》是導演詹姆斯岡恩至今拍過規模最大的電影，他堅持大部分的特技和動作場面必須是實景拍攝，而不是靠後製合成。而這可以從巴拿馬大規模的佈景、真實的爆炸及現場的拍攝看出，Daniela Melchior（飾演 Ratcatcher 2）、Joel Kinnaman（飾演 Rick Flag）等都表示認同。Margot Robbie 也分享：「現場我們能聽到爆炸聲，並聞到火藥味，那讓所有一切更上一層樓，我想在大銀幕上看起來一定很棒！」
《The Suicide Squad》首波評價正面，外媒認為該片極具娛樂性，動作場面浩大、暴力又搞笑，可以說是導演 James Gunn 最棒的作品。David Dastmalchian（飾演 Polka-Dot Man）、Flula Borg（飾演 The Javelin）都表示導演 James Gunn 所拍的電影總是能讓觀眾大開眼界、嘆為觀止。Viola Davis 也說：「超級英雄電影就應該要很好玩，更應該很瘋狂！」導演詹姆斯岡恩最後表示：「有了 Warner Bros. 的加持和對我們的信心，我得以放手去盡情發揮，我對成果非常滿意。」
