‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Has Been Canceled

The show suffered from low viewership as it neared its finale.

The Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte has been shelved after just one season, Deadline reported first. The Disney+ series was set towards the end of the High Republic era and sees a Padawan join forces with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes and the rise of darker powers.

The show was created by Leslye Headland to bridge the events between 1999’s The Phantom Menace and 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

On the day of the show’s premiere, 4.8 million viewers tuned in to watch, according to Deadline. That number jumped to 11 million viewers within five days of its airing.

As the season progressed, however, viewership plummeted. The eighth and final episode of The Acolyte in July marked the lowest viewership for a Star Wars finale ever.

While the season ended on a cliffhanger, viewers will have to focus their attention on another Star Wars series. Thankfully, they won’t have to wait very long. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, a series about four kids lost in the galaxy, premieres on Disney+ on December 3.
