Takashi Murakami Transforms NewJeans Into The Powerpuff Girls
Delivering bags and plush figurines in support of the group’s forthcoming EP, ‘Supernatural.’
NewJeans knows how to build a world with its enthralling performances and visuals; for the group’s latest offering – a relatable cut entitled “Right Now” – they’ve tapped Takashi Murakami to help them shapeshift into The Powerpuff Girls, and translate the track into an IRL merch capsule ahead of the release of their Supernatural EP.
Murakami shared the captivating “Right Now” music video to his Instagram over the weekend, which sees Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein transform into their iterations of The Powerpuff Girls, complete with influence from Murakami’s signature flower character, Kaikai Kiki.
In addition to the song’s music video, the multifaceted artist also worked to bring the visual world to life in a capsule of merchandise.
The girls are reimagined as plus figurines, each of which dons a bright-colored outfit and matching ears with their initials.
Elsewhere, a range of crossbody and drawstring backs appear fully enveloped in the colorful collaborative imagery – but that’s not all. Bags come stacked with a slew of additional merchandise inside, including a photobook, outbox, postcard, photo card and a special Murakami-designed copy of the Supernatural CD, housed in a bejeweled case.
