Miu Miu Launches ‘Summer Reads’ Pop-Up Newsstands to Distribute Feminist Novels
Taking place this weekend in major cities, including New York, London and Tokyo.
Miu Miu wants you to read more books by women authors this summer. The Italian fashion house has launched a new project called Summer Reads, where they’ll be taking over newsstands around the world.
From Friday, June 7 to Saturday, June 9, Miu Miu will be customizing both classic newsstands and constructing a few new ones. Each stand will bear a unique design and will gift each visitor two of three copies of
Among them is a story about a woman rebelling against her bourgeois family, Forbidden Notebook by Cuban-Italian author Alba de Céspedes. Another is Sibilla Aleramo’s autobiographical A Woman and Jane Austen’s final novel, Persuasion, which was published posthumously.
With the initiative, Miu Miu aims to offer reflections of the lives and voices of women throughout centuries and exemplary cases of when women defied convention, tradition and oppression.
“Situated in different places and at disparate moments in history, each text was selected for its author’s brave and powerfully influential status as female creator,” Miu Miu’s announcement read. “All their work, continually reappraised, explores concerns and ideologies that remain relevant to this day.”
Summer Reads pop-up newsstands will be taking place in New York, London, Milan, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Paris. Check out the list of locations on Miu Miu’s website.
