Habitat Reimagines Staple British Designs for New Anniversary Collection
Explore 60 years of design history through the extensive homeware offering.
Homeware icon Habitat has long been a fixture in the British design world, constantly carving out new trends and introducing unique styles to design enthusiasts. This year, the brand marks its 60th birthday, a monumental milestone which it plans to celebrate through an exclusive partnership with Hypebeast, exploring how its legacy resonates with creatives today.
Set to feature in the upcoming collaboration series is the brand new 60 Years of Design collection. Released earlier this year, the collection compiles 60 distinctive ranges featuring various furniture and homeware accessories designed to fit contemporary living spaces. Each item blends Habitat’s long-established design identity with a fresh palette of colors and innovative features, creating a unique yet purposeful home addition.
For the core range, the in-house design team looks back at the pieces that played a part in its history, giving iconic designs a modern refresh. Among the array of furniture, the Larsa bistro chair makes a return in an on-trend, bright red shade while the curved Wyatt chair adopts a deep blue coating on its rattan frame. One of the collection’s standout accessories, the 2004-released twirling Ribbon lamp, also arrives in a primary blue tone, bringing a statement look to modern tabletops.
Expanding the collection beyond its most famous homeware pieces, Habitat unites with various collaborators, and emerging designers as well as former exhibitors of its acclaimed New Designers graduate show to commision brand new furniture. Design duo Planq, known for their use of repurposed materials, introduces two pieces to the collection – a double-tiered coffee table and circular-based side table – made from their own material innovation, Rezign.
Must-watch designer in the ceramic scene, Silvia Kamodyova serves up a unique terracotta vase that carefully blends her own design language with Habitat’s. Working with artisans in Portugal, she crafts an elongated shape adorned with pastel-toned patterns reminiscent of Habitat’s 1980 Living With Colour catalog.
