Hedi Slimane Composes a Psychedelic Menswear Orchestra for CELINE Winter 2024
Smashing departure rumors with a lavish collection inspired by Hector Berlioz’s 1830s ‘Symphonie fantastique.’
Hedi Slimane has made his intentions clear. As rumors continue to swirl of his departure from CELINE amid contract negotiations with LVMH, the French designer has proved that he is here to stay. Slimane has returned with another off-schedule extravaganza, debuting CELINE’s Winter 2024 menswear collection on screens everywhere.
Slimane reconfigures opulence and luxury through a psychedelic lens, taking inspiration from Hector Berlioz’s 1830s Symphonie fantastique. The designer celebrates his fascination for the revolutionary composer with apocalyptic appeal, seeing blacked-out helicopters position a CELINE-branded stereophonic sound system on a vacant highway. Elongated 1960s automobiles carry undercover models into the desert, backdropped by sky-high mountain summits and unkempt crops.
CELINE turns highways into runways for Winter 2024, igniting the showcase with collarless blazers turned into capes reevaluating formal menswear. The brand’s signature motorcycle jackets arrive with cropped hemlines and silver hardware, matched with flamboyant 1970s flared bottoms. Pinstriped pea coats transform into militaristic uniforms, accessorized with wide-brimmed hats and shrunken square-framed sunglasses across the collection.
CELINE shimmers and shines under the cloudless sky, reflecting its glamorous identity with blinking disco ball coats. The collection rides into the unknown with well-dressed cowboys leading the charge in ballooning denim and pocketed button-down shirts. Old-school refinement reigns supreme for Winter 2024, with Slimane focusing on what he does best and presenting 43 looks, including 12 state-of-the-art couture ensembles — piloting the present with twinkling lights and lavish sophistication.
