Marine Serre FW24 Finds Gravity at Paris' Ground Control

The brand’s crescent-moon creations traversed the hybrid French marketplace with an Earthling’s cadence.

For Fall/Winter 2024, Marine Serre headed to the marketplace. Staged at Paris’ Ground Control, a railway shed-turned-bazaar comprising shops, food halls and bars, the designer’s next-season cuts mirrored their metropolitan surroundings: “a multidisciplinary independent living space, which occupies a unique place in the Parisian landscape,” as the brand put it.

To a soundtrack that referenced Serre’s fondness of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, electronic and classical music, the 43-look collection maneuvered the French cultural hub with a sense of otherworldliness that was bolstered by the brand’s signature moon motif. The crescent pattern commanded the opening all-black, mesh ensembles, which were followed by tracksuits and leather outerwear that made more subtle nods to the hero illustration.

The line quickly bloomed with color: bright red mini dresses and ruffled jackets preceded purple-pink cardigans, turtlenecks, skirts and tights, doused entirely in Serre’s lunar identity. Signature black-red and creme-black iterations followed in suit, before several kanki-colored coats and light-washed denim pieces received the outer-space treatment. Balancing prints, the designer offset her classic identifiers with bold snake patterns and decadent florals, which turned the volume higher on the line’s boisterous persona.

Models, carrying grocery bags, pizza boxes, coffee cups and flowers in the signature moon logo, made it simple to imagine the label’s latest designs traversing Paris’ streets in reality. At Ground Control, Marine Serre found gravity.
