Casio Brings Back the Casiotron for a Limited Release
A faithful reimagining that pays homage to the brand’s first watch.
The Casiotron watch model is making a comeback as Casio kicks off its 50th-anniversary celebrations.
The original Casiotron was first unveiled in 1974 and was touted as the world’s first digital wristwatch with an automatic calendar function. Now limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide, the revived Casiotron not only serves as a tribute to the brand’s inaugural timepiece but also incorporates the brand’s latest cutting-edge technology.
While the original boasts only an automatic calendar function, the new Casiotron is geared with added radio wave reception, Tough Solar charging system as well as Smartphone Link. At a glance, the 2024 reproduction timepiece carries an appearance that is faithful to its 1974 inspiration. Other noticeable distinctions that differentiate the two models include a darker dial color and a single button at the 3:30 position on the original. Meanwhile, the new reference boasts a dark blue hue and a total of four buttons on its watch case.
In line with Casio’s ongoing sustainable practices, the timepiece also arrives in special packaging that’s composed of plastic-free and eco-friendly paper, which uses 82% less plastic than conventional packaging. Priced at £449 GBP, the brand-new Casiotron is now available to shop via the brand’s official UK website.
