Kode9 and Burial are OGs, intrinsically linked to one another and the evolution of the UK’s electronic music scene. The former, whose real name is Steve Goodman, is one of the founding fathers of UK dubstep, and the owner of his own record label — Hyperdub — which Burial (William Emmanuel Bevan) joined as the label’s first artist in 2005. Since, the two have gone on to produce various musical projects, notably the joint album FABRICLIVE 100: Kode9 & Burial. Now, the duo is back together for the two-piece EP, Infirmary / Unknown Summer.

fabric, an institutional nightclub based in Farringdon, London, is where Infirmary / Unknown Summer lives. Under the fabric Originals record label, Kode9 and Burial release an EP with two songs of the same name, and it is “Infirmary” that is dropping first.

Debuted earlier today on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC Radio 6 morning show, “Infirmary” is a quintessential mix of the two artists. Burial’s ability to warp and shapeshift vocals is met with Kode9 underpinning the track with a ’90s dubstep beat, which is then enhanced with futuristic sounds, dystopian fractures and elements of video game sound effects that are all typical of Burial.

The new track can be bought via fabric Originals’ bandcamp page now, which also gives you the complete album when it officially debuts on July 21. This split 12” single is pressed on 140-gram vinyl, coming in two limited editions and standard black vinyl versions. The rarer copies range from either a clear vinyl with a black embossed foil fabric logo on the outer sleeve, to a silver vinyl with silver embossed foil. Per fabric, “both versions feature a bespoke 3D design encapsulating the fabric logo printed on reverse board on heavyweight card — a special one-off product to showcase the very best in electronic music.”
