Neil Barrett‘s work under the Prada Uomo and Prada Sport labels was incredibly influential, establishing what some people believe to be the blueprint for minimal menswear. Now, the designer reflects on the early days of his eponymous label with his Spring/Summer 2024 collection, titled “Core Codes.”

Taking to Milan Fashion Week, Neil Barrett presented a collection based on the fundamentals of good dressing, injected with touches of technicality and sportiness here and there. The result was precise, edited and considered, capturing the modern man who requires uniforms fit for all occasions.

By using acid green, lemon, yellow, and pale blue alongside grey and nutty brown, Barrett eschews formality conventions in favor of something more sports-leaning and energetic, breathing life into the collection. Likewise, his choice of fabrics adds a welcomed contemporary feel — the sweater that has acid green paneling, for example, stands out among more classic knitwear earlier on, like the cardigan.

It is a study in minimalism: cuts are boxy and loose, fabrics are comfortable and free, and the collection is all about making that core garment the best it can be. Take a look at Neil Barrett SS24 “Core Codes” in the gallery above.
