English songstress, Jorja Smith, has released a confident new track “Try Me” with an accompanying music video.

It’s been a few years since Smith’s latest EP, Be Right Back, and five years since her debut album, Lost & Found. So with the new single release, it’s clear that Smith is embarking on a new journey in expanding her sound. Filled with steady drums, a jazzy bassline and ringing bells, the new track fosters a sense of confidence and power. “Go ‘head try me/’Cause I’m safe behind these walls/Think you can take me through the fog where I’m no challenge/Childish, childish/Yeah, you, you can try me” sings Smith in the first verse.

According to a statement from Smith, the song is about “putting yourself out there, in front of a world that has many opinions, as it only ever used to be me really being my own critic.” She continued, “This is the first time I’m putting stuff out there that I can connect with right now.”
