Enter Stanley Raffington's World of Three-Dimensional Futurism and Jamaican Heritage

The emerging designer showcases a Spring/Summer 2023 collection that explores technical clothing in a colorful new way.

Central Saint Martins is an incubator of great talent, producing Lee Alexander McQueen, Craig Green, Mowalola Ogunlesi, Kim Jones, Charles Jeffrey, and many, many more. Today, the institution continues to pump out new young talent, such as the up-and-coming emerging designer, Stanley Raffington.

Having studied in CSM’s Menswear BA 2022 course, Raffington has all the foundations to bloom in order to become a household name in the bustling British menswear community. He, along with 114 others, debuted three looks as part of the course’s Madonna and FKA twigs-frow’d fashion show last year, and now, the designer is ready to present his Spring/Summer 2023 offering.

Like his inaugural collection, Stanley Raffington infuses futuristic garments with his Jamaican heritage, in turn creating wearable artwork that doubles as cultural commentary. Experimental to the core, we find snakeskin-printed leather zip-up jackets paired with leather trousers that are laser-cut to create optical illusions on the leg. Elsewhere, 3D printing has been applied to a green jacket, showing traditional net shopping totes one might use for the fruit market in a futuristic realm.

This grows into belts on colorful ribbed knitted dresses, and informs pieces like the pre-orderable Curve Bag. The accessory comprises a 3D-printed frame that holds a zippable leather pouch, tacked to the frame using red, green and gold crochet-style threads in honor of the Rastafari flag.

You can find Stanley Raffington’s work in the gallery above, as well as on the designer’s website and Instagram account. Take a closer look, and stay tuned to Hypebeast for more on this burgeoning talent.
