Christopher Kane draws from fond memories as a youth growing up outside of Glasgow for his Fall/Winter 2023 collection. The designer presented his latest collection at London Fashion Week which was heavily rooted in the prominent women he grew up with in the 1980s.

Inspired by their sense of fashion at the time and the everyday working-class life, the designer recalls his neighborhood, stepping on pavements sprung with spring flowers and seeing butterflies and even mice and pigs roam the fields. The nature-esque patterns were a main fixture amongst the pieces presented on the runway. These everyday animals were seen as AI-generated prints on lengthy gowns, while colord weeds with vibrant floral were highlighted as prints and embroideres on a box cut overcoat and a strapless black dress.

Taking inspiration from traditional working-class occupations, Kane transforms the ruffles from a barmaids’s skirts into an exaggerated peplum skirt that highlights the feminine curves that add volume to conventional silhouettes. Working with black and bright red vinyls, the skirts are paired with oversized knits to create the sultry waddle aesthetic. Kane brought elegance and chicness to staple pantsuits and fitted dresses that both offered slend tailoring to highlight the female figure. Hues range paired pops of primary color with charcoal and black undertones.
