2023 has been full of ups and downs across the board. The year began with Daniel Lee‘s Burberry debut at London Fashion Week, followed by Balenciaga‘s subtle return after controversially closing 2022. Miuccia Prada and Raf SimonsPrada reigned supreme in Q1 2023, taking the top spot as the world’s hottest brand according to Lyst. LOEWE stole the show in Q2, while Miu Miu has recovered by claiming the yearly position for two years running in Q4.

Lyst’s “Year in Fashion” round-up has finally arrived, outlining the top brands, trends, and products that took over shelves in 2023. Miu Miu continued to stand its ground in Q4, building momentum after its star-studded Paris Fashion Week show walked by Gigi Hadid and Troye Sivan. The brand had a thrilling year, delivering viral products coveted by “it” girls far and wide. The buzzy label provided viral collaborations throughout the year, boosting its presence in mainstream fashion markets. From releasing three distressed New Balance 574 colorways to its gentlemen-friendly partnership with Church’s, Miu Miu’s online searches increased by 39% in Q4, seeing its trademark cashmere cardigan receive a significant 12% spike after appearing on the runway with preppy styling.

LOEWE’s Anagram emblem is the logo of the year, landing on pixilated attire, embroidered denim, and staple tank tops. The latter became the hottest product in Q2, experiencing a 132% search rise aligned with LOEWE’s buzzy explosion. The interlocked design is adored by luxury shoppers worldwide and complements the modern “quiet luxury” aesthetic.

Gen-Z’s obsession with Y2K fashion has stolen the show in 2023, with shrunken feminine garments taking over. Miu Miu’s trademark micro mini skirt is the trend of the year, igniting the rise of hot pants that double as underwear. The trend has mastered a 133% swell year-on-year, worn by international stars including Bella Hadid and Rihanna. Micro mini skirts stormed global runways, seen at Tom Ford, GCDS, and Stella McCartney.

Sheer footwear was also a clear standout, widening the hype of ballerina slippers through crave-worthy interpretations by Bottega Veneta, The Row, and more. Naked shoes arrived in several textile variations, seeing exposed mesh and tulle reveal the skin beneath with airy fabrications. The dainty style climbed the ladder with a 56% search soar, closing 2023 on top.

It’s no secret that the easy-going adidas Samba has become widely desired, selling out weekly with no availability in sight. Wales Bonner‘s iterations sent us into a frenzy, creating undeniable hype that has migrated onto the feet of Hollywood A-listers. The British designer unearthed adidas’ oversized tongue flap, promoting a 13,227% rise following her recent Fall/Winter 2023 collection.

The celebrity world grew brighter in 2023, spearheaded by world-renowned K-pop stars, VIP couples, and FROW attendees. Kylie Jenner, the reigning queen of runway shows, has been named the best dressed, appearing at Prada and Acne Studios last season. Blackpink member Jennie Kim has earned 2023’s “The Power Dresser” award, while Rihanna and A$AP Rocky dressed to impress at the Met Gala and Golden Globes, cementing themselves as “The Fashion Couple” to keep your eyes on.

TikTok’s viral Maison Margiela “Tabi Swipper” was 2023’s most jarring digital phenomenon, with over 178 million viewers tuned in to unravel the chaos. The event gifted Tabi’s conventional popularity, with searches growing by 342% to round out the year. Finally, Lyst has revealed that London-based designer Dilara Findikoglu is 2023’s “Brand to Watch” following her nomination for New Establishment Womenswear at the British Fashion Awards.
