The Basement's New Balance 2002R Becomes a Brutalist "Stone Grey" Stunner

Does the minimal color palette make this The Basement’s finest 2002R collaboration to date?

From a community page on Facebook to a globally-recognized platform that speaks to and engages youth culture, The Basement is in a league of its own. Its ability to tap fashion, music, art and politics has made it a biblical treasure to the hundreds of thousands that interact with its social platforms, a society that’s since been welcomed into the world of print media with The Basement’s own magazine. Enhancing its relationship with those it addresses, The Basement has also become a prolific collaborator — notably with New Balance — and today it announces its next drop, the New Balance 2002R “Stone Grey.”

Following up on the “Moss Green” and “Earth Brown” colorways from earlier this year, The Basement continues to build its sneaker collaboration portfolio (which also includes Nike) with yet another colorway that speaks to the natural elements around us. For its cleanest to date, the 2002R “Stone Grey” wears a palette comprising white, grey, and black tones that dress the uppers which are made from waterproof heavy suede and textured rubber.

This sits alongside toe caps, heel guards, and a rigid sole unit found in black, while as the night draws in, touches of 3M found across the shoe’s upper shine bright, lighting up the 2002R branding and the curvaceous panels on the toe box and sides.

Elsewhere, The Basement’s original logo works the heel, whereas the modernized BSMNT emblem can be found on the tongue, lace tips and insole. Its “9 Bar” graphic is laser cut into the “N” emblem on the mid-panels, and the letter “B” comes in place of the New Balance “N” on the throat.

As expected, these shoes are set to sell out almost as soon as they drop — which happens to be on December 4 at 4 p.m. GMT (11 a.m. ET) exclusively on The Basement’s shoppable site. Take a world-exclusive look at the hotly-anticipated pair above.
