Converse has a lengthy history of outstanding partnerships under its belt, from Rick Owens DRKSHDW to Tyler, the Creator, and Samuel Ross’ A-COLD-WALL*. As a key collaborator, the latter has recently worked on several models, including the Converse Chuck 70 and Aeon Active CX. Now, the duo is gearing up to debut the futuristic Geo Forma silhouette.

Presented via an exclusive campaign video starring British rapper Lancey Foux, it sees the “Take Some More” singer step into an otherworldly universe while rocking contemporary gear and the chunky shoe on-feet. The multifaceted artist is presented in a fast-paced light, getting up close and personal with the all-new Geo Forma.

The boot is an homage to the classic Chuck Taylor All-Star, pushing the model into a new realm with an avant-garde approach. Arriving in “Volt/Black Beauty” and “Lily White/Poppy Seed,” a hefty geometric design is present throughout, showcasing Samuel Ross’ modern language through a functional outline fit for unpredictable exploration.

The upper is constructed from protective materials ideal for rain or shine, outfitted with branded zippers that run across the throat replacing traditional laces. Elastic collars deliver a flawless fit, while “ACW_CNVS” adorns the rear pull tabs that allow for swift entry. Recycled sole units arrive with a sculptural identity, boasting diverse A-COLD-WALL* branding that completes the design.

Speaking exclusively to Hypebeast, Converse Footwear-Energy Design Director Matt Sleep says:

What inspired the design of the new Converse x ACW* Geo Forma?

While it is an entirely new silhouette, the design language of the Geo Forma is rooted in the Chuck 70 but is then transformed through the aesthetic filter of “future-angularity.” Beginning with the custom mid and outsole units which define the new articulation, the silhouette explores the distinctive artistry of the Chuck 70, but through a futuristic, geometric lens – applying the A-COLD-WALL* signature avant-garde cues while embracing modern concerns of utility.

Why did you choose to integrate such a dramatic sole unit into an otherwise simplistic design?

This was very much a conscious design choice based on how we’ve been growing our collective aesthetic vision since the inception of our partnership together. We wanted to create something that, from a functional standpoint, would be durable and, therefore, able to stand both the test of time and the test of the streets while also being instantly recognizable from afar! What you end up with is a blend of both our design languages that straddles the boundary of being futuristic, we like to call this “Future-Familiar.” Aside from the fantastic comfort and forward-thinking aesthetic that this delivers to our consumers, the other notable point is that the tread pattern has been engineered to deliver maximum traction, keeping you ready and steady in any environment!

In what way does the Converse x ACW* Geo Forma differ from the rest of the partnership’s collaborative releases?

I would say that it’s not so much about how it differs but more about how it builds upon the legacy of work that we have already created together. Collectively, we are still aiming for the same tenets that this partnership was built on, pushing form and function in new and exciting ways while still paying homage to the roots of both brands’ DNA. The Geo Forma is the latest expression of that, this time revisiting where our partnership began in the “Sneaker-Boot” ecosystem.

Take a closer look at the A-COLD-WALL* x Converse Geo Forma above. The model will be available for purchase via A-COLD-WALL* on December 17, followed by Converse and select retailers globally on December 20.
