天然氣海底管道洩漏導致墨西哥海面出現巨大火勢
網民甚至稱其為「Eye of Fire」或「the Gate to Hell」。
位於墨西哥灣當地時間 7 月 2 日，Petróleos Mexicanos（Pemex，墨西哥國家石油公司）旗下油田海底管道的天然氣洩漏導致墨西哥灣表面發生大火。
許多人看見海洋表面出現大火後感到驚歎不已，甚至有網民稱其為「Eye of Fire」或「the Gate to Hell」。意外來源於 Pemex 主要油田 Ku Maloob Zaap 相連的管道，該油田由 82 口鑽井與 17 個石油平台組成且每日可產出超過 700,000 桶石油，約占公司總產量的 40%，不過隨著產量不斷下降加上對新開採技術缺乏投資，這家石油公司已負債近 $1,140 億美金。
在消防船的幫助下使這場大火在五小時內被撲滅，雖然本次意外沒讓石油洩漏到海洋當中，但仍有許多人藉由這次事件來表達海上鑽井對大自然造成的不利影響。
