A basketball hotbed at the bottom of Brooklyn, Coney Island has produced NBA talent like Stephon Marbury
, Lance Stephenson
and Sebastian Telfair — and now Nike Sportswear
is nodding to the oceanside community’s impact on the game with a “Grey Fog” collection. Consisting of stylishly stark takes on the Blazer Mid ‘77
and Sky Force 3/4
, the “Grey Fog” kicks are also part of Nike
‘s larger “Embedded” capsule.
Both offer uppers dressed in stormy grey suede, with the Blazer presenting a signature retro high-top cut, leather overlays and exposed foam tongue and the Sky Force with a 3/4 build and suede/neoprene construction. Each also adds light aqua blue Swooshes and heel branding for a nod to Coney Island’s position by the Atlantic Ocean.
Blazers retain a classic tongue tag, while Sky Forces add a retro Nike Basketball
tag with an “83” detail for a nod to the year it first released. Both also supply basketball-shaped lace deubres. The signature detail, however arrives on the insoles: a printed map of Coney Island’s bus routes. Blazers are completed by white midsoles, Sky Forces with grey.
The Nike Blazer Mid ‘77 and Sky Force 3/4 “Grey Fog” will release on August 15 via Nike SNKRS
. The former is priced at $110 USD, the latter at $85 USD.
