Nike Sportswear has revived the cult classic Air Trainer 3 “Viotech” for the first time since its inagural release in 2002. Bo Jackson‘s heroics on gridiron and diamond alike first made the Air Trainer 3 — especially the “Medicine Ball” colorway — famous in the late ’80s. However, by the early ’00s its purpose shifted from performance to lifestyle, and the “Viotech” was at the front of that push.

Leather uppers are awash in the purple hues that give the shoe its moniker. Toeboxes, quarters and collar trim are done up in a rich perforated purple shade, with overlays and heels taking on a light, smooth purple tone. Steel grey and bright yellow handle the accents: the former is used on the supportive TPU exoskeleton and signature forefoot strap, while the latter is placed on the lateral side’s Swoosh. More Nike branding is present via purple pops on the forefoot strap, heel cage and tongue badge. Moving to the lower half, all-purpose midsoles are split between yellow and white EVA foam, with a clear Air Max unit in the heel. Rugged rubber outsoles complete the look.

Colorful early ’00s NSW classics have been enjoying an extended period in the spotlight over the last several months, ranging from the the Dunk Low “Viotech” in December to the Dunk Low “Plum” in February. The Air Trainer 3 “Viotech” aims to continue this momentum, and will likely be followed by other memorable turn-of-the-century styles in the coming weeks.

The Nike Air Trainer 3 “Viotech” is set to release on Nike SNKRS June 1, and will retail for $130 USD.
