Yosuke Aizawa witnessed the methods of a paragon before he soon became one himself. The Japanese designer began his career as a protégée of Junya Watanabe (who himself was a gifted pupil of COMME des GARÇONS’ Rei Kawakubo) before he established his own line, White Mountaineering, back in 2006. Renowned for its utilitarian perspective on minimalistic yet functional designs, the label integrates tech fabrics into its garments in order to produce a set of dynamic apparel adaptable to all seasons. This year, especially, has witnessed a string of impressive collaborations for the modern fashion brand, released alongside its own acclaimed seasonal ranges. With Aizawa at the helm, White Mountaineering launched a series of offerings in tandem with British heritage brand Barbour, the “Black Mountaineering” capsule collection with fellow Japanese imprint the POOL aoyama, and even a buzz-worthy rework of the iconic adidas Stan Smith silhouette.
