Few designers have had as big an effect on the landscape of footwear design over the past few years as has Nic Galway. Following a lengthy stint at the German sportswear giant, Galway served as the Design Director of adidas’s collaborative Y-3 imprint with legendary Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. Home to some of the most progressive footwear around, that stint ultimately yielded what is probably Y-3’s most universally beloved silhouette: the Qasa. Galway then took over as the Vice President of Global Design at adidas, channeling the look of the Qasa and the original Tubular ‘93 to create the Tubular Runner. Now a staple of the Three Stripes line-up and foundation for silhouettes like the Tubular Runner Primeknit, Tubular Moc Runner, and Tubular X, as well as the sleek Nova, Doom and Defiant, the successful design led to Galway’s latest march up the ladder. Now the man at the helm of adidas Originals, Galway capped off 2015 with a bang, introducing the world to the NMD -- a sleek Primeknit-constructed, Boost-cushioned low-top that adopts elements of the Micro Pacer, the Rising Star, and the Boston Super. Needless to say, the kicks sold out in a flash. Oh yeah, and did we mention he worked alongside Kanye West in creating the Yeezy Boosts?
